what would I give to know what Kat is thinking about during this scene. Adena is the obvious choice, but we already know her worries this episode are more about her, about looking inside herself and making a choice. Looking at that picture of herself I think is reminding her of a time when she was brave, when she was relentless and went after what she wanted, and she wonders how when it comes to her professional life she can be as daring as she needs to be but when it comes to her personal life is harder.
The hopeless romantic picture is there to remind us that this choice is motivated and tied to Adena, but is not the first one they show, they focus on the picture of Kat first to make clear again that this is about what is best for Kat, and that being with Adena is just and added benefit.
The way Adena worded this question, with the what if. She is afraid, she is afraid it’s too late. Even if Kat gave her hints she still wants her, she knows she can’t expect Kat to just fall back into what they had just because Adena finally decided to come back. But she still wants to try, she is willing to fight for this relationship.
Kat messed up the first time, but Adena did too. She let her fears win and ran back to what was safe. She knows that, and the way she is so shy, and hesitant is so cute.
I think this is probably the first time we see Adena like this, that we get a glimpse at her being unsure and vulnerable. It’s adorable.
After the face she made after Kat’s words I can totally see Adena laying on her bed for hours thinking about it. Finally letting go of the fears and the guilt keeping her in Paris and realizing she needs to go back. I can imagine her reliving the night Kat confessed to her, how the strength of Kat’s feelings hit her with so much force she couldn’t stop herself from kissing her. Being inspired by how bold and brave Kat was that night and deciding is her turn to do the same.
And Adena’s face is so heartbreaking. She gets the message, she gets what Kat is trying to say. And the sadness, it could be over being away from her, over leaving in the first place. Or maybe is because she still doesn’t think she can change their situation. Whatever the reason, one thing is clear. Being away from Kat is breaking her heart.
